Our team is made up of passionate marine conservation divers who volunteer their time to Ghost Diving Foundation, cleaning up underwater waste, specifically abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG). Driven by a constant pursuit of innovative ways to detect pollution and a shared passion for new technologies, integrating drones (UAV) into our efforts was a natural evolution.
SKARV was founded in 2022 and emerged as an idea during a project where we started using drones effectively to locate lost fishing gear in Greek coastal areas.
‘SKARV’
The cormorant, or ‘Skarv’ (in Norwegian), is the symbol for our organization and UAV-based projects. It’s a bird that thrives along coastlines, with a sharp eye for detail and the ability to dive deep into the ocean, much like how our drones observe and inspect shorelines and seas from above. Cormorants are both graceful and efficient, reflecting the precision and adaptability that SKARV embodies in its environmental monitoring and storytelling efforts.
Just as the cormorant navigates both air and water, we navigate the skies to safeguard and capture the essence of marine ecosystems. The bird’s vigilant and resourceful nature makes it an ideal representation for your commitment to ocean and shoreline conservation.
Our name is a tribute to these fascinating birds.
